Be on the lookout for "Snowana" the snowplow.
Mrs. Simonelli's 2nd grade class was among 12 winning classrooms from across the state in the MassDOT's third annual "Name A Snowplow" contest for elementary and middle school students.
Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver expressed thanks to everyone who participated in this contest and offered his congratulations to the winners - "This contest is a great way for schools across the state to connect with the crews who work tirelessly to keep our roads clear each winter,"
The name "Snowana", along with "Morris Elementary", will be applied to a snowplow in District 1. The image is of a previous year's winner.
This year's other winners from across the state were:
"Ice Ice Baby" (also in District 1)
"Control-Salt-Delete"
"Mac N' Freeze"
"Snow Force One"
"Blizzard Buster"
"Taylor Drift"
"C3P Snow"
"Ice S'now More"
"Meltin' John"

Happy Holidays from everyone at Lenox Public Schools to you, and your family!
Holiday Message -
Two weeks ago, a member of the LPS Admin Team was telling me about how their random act of kindness impacted a teacher. It cost this administrator nothing. It was simply a few words of recognition and gratitude for how this administrator's child's life was better for being in this teacher's class. Unbeknownst to the administrator, the teacher had been having a particularly difficult day and those few kind words arrived at the perfect time to provide a boost. Recognizing how impactful the teacher found those few words clearly touched the administrator.
Between now and the end of school break, let’s participate in a LPS Community Random Acts of Holiday Kindness Challenge by gifting one random act of kindest. There is no upper limit on the number of kindness act gifts given, but one random act of kindness is all that is required to fulfill this challenge.
Only One Rule: The act of kindness must be selfless (it can't be about benefiting ourselves)
Some Examples:
Shovel a neighbor's walkway
Older children may offer to babysit younger siblings to gift parents a date night
Younger children could do chores without being asked or without a fuss
Listen without interrupting
Call a parent, grandparent, or friend out of the blue
Ask an older relative about your family history
Tell a younger relative about their family history
Let someone merge ahead of you in traffic or the supermarket checkout line
Pick up a piece of rubbish and put it in the trash
Lend a good book that you know a fellow reader will enjoy
Send someone a "thinking of you" or "remember that time" note
Give someone else the benefit of the doubt
Not a single one of these examples costs any money and the list could go on and on.
All told, the LPS Community is more than a thousand strong. Imagine the impact that 1,000 extra acts of kindness could have between now and January 2nd.
May kindness abound this holiday season (and into the new year)!

Ms. Gerney’s entire class got up extra early this morning for their debut on national television! NBC's Today Show was visiting Stockbridge as part of their Merriest Main Street segment. It certainly was a very merry main street in front of the Red Lion Inn as Ms. Gerney's 3rd graders showed support for their classmate, Daniel "Tony" Kennedy, who is portraying Tiny Tim in the Berkshire Theatre Group's production of A Christmas Carol.

Lenox Public Schools received a technology grant in 2023-2024. The Rural Tech Fund just wrote an article celebrating Kate Olender's great work in implementing those funds:
Tech Teaching Takes Off in Lenox, MA
Kate Olender, a tech teacher from Lenox, MA, is bringing the world of coding to her students in Pre-K through 5th grade! With a passion for teaching computational thinking to young minds, she received a grant to bring KIBO robots into her classroom. These interactive robots help her students learn to build and program in a fun, hands-on way. After seeing her students thrive, Kate decided to share her expertise with other educators in her county, leading a professional development workshop on Micro:bits.
