News Channel 13 - Lenox Goes Screen-Free
This week, Lenox Public Schools is putting down the devices and picking up something more personal — a face-to-face connection.
To celebrate International Screen-Free Week, the district has launched a series of events to encourage students and families to unplug from technology and engage with each other in real life.
From “Family Game Night” at Lenox Memorial High School to “Books Before Bed” at Morris Elementary, the week is packed with tech-free activities to build community and encourage mindfulness. The highlight event, “Night Under the Stars,” will occur Friday, May 2, where families can stargaze with astronomer and author Meg Thacher.
“This isn’t about banning technology,” said Superintendent Dr. William Collins. “It’s about creating space for meaningful connection and balance in a screen-saturated world.”
With support from local partners like the Lenox Library and the Community Center, school leaders hope the initiative will benefit their community and inspire other districts across Massachusetts to consider going screen-free, even for a week.
The Lenox Public Schools website has a full schedule of events. All activities are open to the public.
