L.M.M.H.S. SCHEDULED TO RESUME FULL-TIME IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION FOR MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ON TUESDAY, APRIL 27
This is William Cameron, the Lenox Superintendent of Schools. You will receive an e-mail version of this message via School Messenger, as well. This message will also be posted on the district’s and schools’ websites.
LMMHS and district administrators, as well as two School Committee members, met at noon today with the asbestos remediation and air quality contractors. We learned there that we can reopen LMMHS for all students on Tuesday, April 27.
Neither remote nor in-person instruction will be offered on Monday, April 26. Instead, middle and high school teachers will return to work this coming Monday to meet with the school’s administrators and organize their classrooms. The furniture and all other items in second floor classrooms and certain first floor classrooms had to be cleared out to enable the asbestos remediation to proceed. Teachers will need time to get their classrooms prepared for the following day, when middle and high school students who return to LMMHS will do so for full-time, in-person instruction.
The last day of this school year, a year that will pass unlamented, will be Friday, June 18.
Bus routes for the resumption of school at LMMHS this coming week have been sent home to all LMMHS students’ households. Bus pick-ups for school choice students at Market 32 on Rtes. 7 & 20 and St. Helena’s Chapel on New Lenox Rd. will resume on Tuesday, April 27.
Students returning to school full-time will be expected to follow the same safety practices as were the case before the school was closed in March for asbestos remediation: masking, personal distancing, frequent hand washing or sanitization, and avoidance of groups. COVID-19 is still around. Schools will be safe places for students and staff members only if these important measures continue to be followed and taken seriously by everyone.
If for any reason a change in the plan I have announced is required then Mr. Knybel or I will notify you promptly. Regrettably, I feel compelled to make that qualification in light of all that has taken place in the past 13 months.
I hope you have enjoyed the past week off. I hope you will enjoy the weekend as we prepare for the resumption of something approximating normal secondary education in Lenox.
