Introduction
You are an observer of the events now known as the Mau Mau Uprising. This rebellion against the British East African Protectorate in Kenya between 1952 and 1960 began the withdrawl of the British colonial interests from what is now known as the State of Kenya. However, the Mau Mau Uprising is generating conflicting opinions. From your perspective, you must evalutate the situation by researching the information, analyzing the data, judging the historical legacy of the British East African Protectorate and Kenya Land and Freedom Army. Essential Questions 1. What was the stated mission of the British in colonizing Kenya and was this mission accomplished? 2. What was Social Darwinism and how did this theory influence behavior and judgement of the participants? 3. What were the goals of the KLFA (Mau Mau) and did they succeed? 4. Were the KLFA justified in their actions? 5. Were the British jusitified in their actions? 6. In what ways had the newly resolved United Nations Conventions on Human Rights been ignored or violated by either party?
