Geography

The history of the Kikuyu begins with the settlement of the valley between Mt. Kirinyaga (Kenya) and the Aberdare Range. Kikuyu migrated to the region below Mt. Kirinyaga during the 1500s. They established their homesteads (mbari) on the ridges below the mountain since this region was a very fertile area for cultivation.

The maps sites below will lead you to view the area where the Kikuyu settled.

Zoom into Kenya and select the tab for theme maps. Go to the box that says "Find A Place" and type in "Kenya". You can choose a variety of maps including "weather", "population" or "physical" to enlighten your study of the Kikuyu.
