    A musical person…

    *  Thinks tunes
    * Feels rhythms
    * Responds to expressiveness in music.

    John M. Feierabend

Morris students in grades K-5 receive music instruction once a week. Keeping in mind the National Standards for Music Education, our program is varied in goals and content. Through a Kodaly and Orff based approach children will participate in a rich array of musical experiences. These include creative movement, dance, pitched and un-pitched percussion instruments, active listening, singing, reading and writing musical notation. The goal is for all students to participate in music making in a safe welcoming environment.

    In addition to classroom music, students may choose to sing in chorus. The Junior Chorus (grades 2-3) and the Senior Chorus (grades 4-5) each meet once a week before school.

The Morris Elementary Concert Band Program begins with lessons in fourth grade and continues through the end of fifth grade. Fifth graders receive weekly group lessons and form an ensemble. Lessons and ensemble meet during the school day. Fourth graders also meet weekly for lessons during the school day.
