SCHOOL ADJUSTMENT COUNSELING School Adjustment Counselors are licensed social workers. Their role in the school is to support students, along with their parents and teachers, in managing their growth and development and any special needs. Parent interviews for students’ team evaluations are conducted to include parents in the evaluation process and to learn more about the students’ interests, abilities, struggles, and social connections. Counseling support is offered to parents around these educational and personal concerns. Counseling in small groups or one-to-one is provided for students to practice communication and problem-solving skills and other social skills such as: making friends, sharing and taking turns, listening, focusing, winning and losing, regulating emotions, taking responsibility, setting goals, and developing empathy. The psycho-educational approach involves exploring a topic, practicing games and role-playing, creative expression through arts, developing insight, and discussing how topics and solutions apply at home and school. Counseling helps students realize their potential and become more capable and confident in their relationships and in their classroom. |
