Earlier this month, Mr. Lee, Ms. Kennedy, and I traveled to Washington D.C. to receive the National Blue Ribbon School award. We attended a two-day conference and ceremony with all the other winners from around the country. It was very professionally rewarding to spend a few days with educators representing some of the best schools in our nation. The conference ended with the awarding of our official plaque and official National Blue Ribbon School flag which can now be seen flying over our school just beneath our American flag.
On Friday, November 18, the staff and students celebrated our National Blue Ribbon School award together at an All School Meeting and ceremonial flag-raising. At our All School Meeting, I shared photos and spoke a little bit about the trip to Washington, D.C. The winners of the Blue Ribbon Writing Contest were announced and each had the opportunity to read their writing aloud to the school. Congratulations to Race Keator, Willow Krawvzyk, Greysen Koenig, Nayline Serrano, Evie Lynch, Hayden Hoffman, and Teagan Maxymillian for winning the writing contest. All staff and students reported outside to the flagpole for our official National Blue Ribbon School flag-raising during which we sang “You’re A Grand Ol’ Flag.” Finally we posed for an all-school photo.
I would like to sincerely thank the Morris PTO for making our Blue Ribbon Celebration a success. They coordinated a special blue ribbon treat of blue cotton candy served at lunch and bought awesome blue ribbon t-shirts for all staff and students! Our PTO is the absolute best and we couldn’t have pulled this off without them!
I would also like to thank Tricia McCormack Photography. Tricia (Mother of 3rd Grader, Connor) donated her professional photography services to the Blue Ribbon Celebration. The photos embedded in this blog post (along with many others) were taken by Tricia and donated to us free of charge.
